Collection of Curated & Co-created handcrafted Terracotta products from different parts of India & Jaipur Blue Pottery
Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh specialises in making pots of both red and stone burnished pottery as well as the traditional black pottery.
The process of production is described in great detail by Kamaladevi Chattopadyay in her book Handicrafts of India, "The sheen is obtained by dipping it into a solution of clay, vegetable matter, dried, then rubbed with a vegetable oil and fired. The vegetable matter evidently gives out a dark oxide to get that lustrous effect, on which, scintillating silvery ornamentation is done by incising the pattern on the surface after baking and rubbing in mercury and tin. Thats how greenwares get black colour on it.
Prosperity from The Mother’s house presents handcrafted Terracotta & Blue Pottery products from the villages of India. We aspire to bridge the gap between traditional artisans & craft lovers, to cover the distance between remote villages of India and international craft destinations, to cross the divide between aesthetic products and pocket-friendliness and to find a balance between a rich design heritage and modern-day needs. So far, Prosperity has been able to bring you pottery from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Molela, Pokhran and Kot Jevar in Rajasthan and from Chhota Udaipur in Gujarat.
